If you hit the trail from the back door of HQ and jog up the hard packed, easy access trail towards Nuns Cross like Ewart did, Cuckoo Rock is about a 45 minute jog. In the car its a 5 min drive and a 10 min walk. With some of the finest views of Dartmoor looking towards Burrator reservoir, and Plymouth sound, yup, you can see the sea, its a great way to reach one of the best and quietest bouldering spots on Dartmoor. There are a few good bouldering spots near 00166 with Cuckoo Rock being the biggest but the Burrator blocks being more popular. They are sheltered in the woods and do stay a bit drier.
Looking down into the valley below Sheeps Tor (perfect top roping for groups) Burrator reservoir is below the big jumble of boulders and Combeshead Tor that makes up the Cuckoo rock area.
The thing about Cuckoo rock is that the main boulder its self is pretty high. So unless you like your freefall or are feeling on form its probably wiser to choose one of the many other but lower problems and boulders.
On the side of Hanging Flake boulder.
Loads of great routes on this one with pretty nice landings. Only one or two pads needed.
Dyno from Undercuts - V6 6c Good job he's got long arms!
