Last month I had the pleasure of visiting the Dewerstone store in 00166. If you haven't been yet, you should definitely put it on your to do list! It's the perfect balance between traditional countryside outside and sharp, modern inside. And then there's the coffee and cake!
In true Heidi Walsh fashion, I was incapable of visiting friends without going on a big old adventure. With the Tour of Britain going straight past the shop I thought it would be a good idea to create my own tour based around the Dewerstone shop which Rory kindly named the "Tour de Cake". The route ended up being a 95km figure of eight shaped loop with over 2,000m of climbing. Having the ride based around the shop was perfect for a pre-ride caffeine hit, a cake stop half way through to keep you going and a post-ride chat with the team which goes mostly a long the lines of "so good but sooo tired"!
The Dartmoor hills are truly beautiful. For the most part, they are manageable, steady climbs followed by rolling fun but every so often you'll get caught out by an absolute monster! Make sure you put your big day socks on, bring your game face and prepare for some suffering. It's well worth it for the stunning descents.
I want to finish by saying a huge thank you to the team at Dewerstone for making me feel so welcome. Your hospitality over this weekend was second to none and I can't wait to sleep in your carpark again!
